Biography

+

Florian Kaltenbach established his unique cinematic and concept-driven storytelling with his personal work faceoff. The series of sport films in collaboration with Adidas received multiple awards and nominations in Europe, the UK and the US. Crossing over into fashion his work on faceoff and for Reebok also has been rewarded at fashion film festivals in Paris, London and New York. Marrying his impactful visuals, his feel for authentic casting with his love for surprising twists defines Florian’s emotionally attaching and visually engaging style as director.

Coming from an architect family influenced by Bauhaus Florian’s view for design and the beauty in simplicity has been shaped at an early age. After DJing and working as a Graphic Designer in his early twenties, he directed shorts like Delay, the premiere black-white movie shot on Arri’s first digital camera. He started out as an editor in advertising and had a successful 10 year career, focussing mainly on automobile, actor-based and fashion spots. His edits have been appreciated for their sense of rhythm and emotion.

Soon he became enthusiastic about creating moving images himself so he started directing music videos and commercials in several styles and genres. In 2014 he shot a campaign to engage the residents of Berlin to support its application for the 2024 Olympics. The films were beyond the expected and the client opened a budget to bring the online campaign to cinemas. Sports turned out to be a natural fit, so he honed his approach further with his personal work faceoff and created spots for clients such as Adidas, Reebok, Jack Link’s, Coca Cola and Zalando.

Florian continues to work in sports and fashion. He also seizes opportunities to explore new fields where his storytelling approach and cinematic eye promise to be a strong combination. Florian lives and works between Berlin and London.
